    Hi, @L SHOVAN

Have you tried manual repair instead? If you haven't tried it yet, please follow the steps below.

If you haven't tried anything yet please start by:

First, please check if your Microsoft 365 is active or if your Office license is listed. You can do this by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services if the subscription is active or if your Office license is listed, try these steps:

    Repair Office apps:

    • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
    • Find Microsoft 365 or Office in the list, select it, then choose Change > Quick Repair.
    • If that doesn’t help, run the repair again but select Online Repair instead.

    Check for updates:

    • Open any Office app (if it opens even briefly), go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • Restart your device after repair and try opening the apps again.

If the apps still don’t open, please let me know if you’re using Microsoft 365 or a one-time purchase version (like Office 2021), so I can guide you with the next specific steps.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

Run Online Repair from Windows Settings, rather than clicking the unresponsive Repair Now button inside Word.

    Run Online Repair

Before starting, verify that Microsoft 365 or Office appears under your Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions, because Online Repair may require Office to be reinstalled or activated afterward. Save and close any other Office applications.

    Windows 11

    1. Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select the three dots (…) beside it, then Modify.
    4. Approve the Windows permission prompt if displayed.
    5. Select Online Repair → Repair.
    6. Let the process finish, restart the computer, and open Word.

    Windows 10

    1. Right-click Start and select Apps and Features.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select Modify.
    4. Choose Online Repair → Repair.
    5. After completion, restart the computer and test Word.

Online Repair repairs the entire Office suite, even when only Word is affected, and is more thorough than Quick Repair or the button in the error message.^1^ This specific sequence is also the accepted resolution for the same Word error where Repair Now does nothing.^2^

If Word still does not open

Test whether an add-in is preventing Word from starting:

    1. Press Windows key + R.
    2. Enter: winword /safe
    3. Select OK.
    4. If Word opens and its title bar shows Safe Mode, go to File → Options → Add-Ins.
    5. At the bottom, set Manage to COM Add-ins, then select Go.
    6. Clear one add-in, select OK, close Word, and start it normally.
    7. Repeat until the problem add-in is identified.

Safe Mode starts Word without automatically loading certain extensions and customizations. If Word does not start in Safe Mode, move to reinstalling Office rather than continuing to troubleshoot add-ins.^3^

If Online Repair and Safe Mode both fail

Use Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter on the affected PC, restart when prompted, and then reinstall Office from the Microsoft account associated with the purchase or subscription. The troubleshooter supports Windows 10 or later and Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019, and Office 2016; it currently cannot uninstall Office 2024.^4^

Uninstalling removes the Office applications, so ensure the account and license are accessible first. Personal documents are normally separate from the Office installation, but back up important files before uninstalling.
