Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper rather than changing the password again, because the password has already been changed but is still being rejected. ^1^
Steps
- Open the Sign-in Helper from the Microsoft Support page above.
- Enter the complete address used for the Outlook.com account.
- Carefully check the username and domain—for example,
@outlook.com,@hotmail.com, or a country-specific domain such as@hotmail.co.uk. A different domain can identify a different account. If the account has another email alias or phone number, try that sign-in identifier instead. ^2^ - Follow the Sign-in Helper’s result. It will check the account details and direct you to the appropriate recovery action.
If the message specifically says “You have tried too many times with an incorrect password,” stop making repeated sign-in attempts and use the Sign-in Helper’s recovery route; Microsoft notes that this message can also involve an app, browser, device, or network issue. ^3^
If this is a work or school Outlook account, the personal Microsoft-account recovery process does not apply; contact the organization’s IT administrator or use its work/school password-reset process. ^1^
