    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're trying to share an Excel workbook and grant others editing permissions, but you're receiving the error: "The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x803d0005."

Let's try the following steps to identify the cause:

1/ Try sharing the workbook through OneDrive on the web

    1. Open OneDrive.
    2. Sign in using the Microsoft account associated with the workbook.
    3. Locate the Excel workbook.
    4. Select the file and click Share.
    5. Try sharing it again and select Can edit.

Check whether you can share the workbook successfully this way.

2/ Check your OneDrive synchronization status

If you're using the OneDrive desktop application:

    1. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows taskbar.
    2. Check whether there are any synchronization errors or pending uploads.
    3. If synchronization is paused, resume it.
    4. Once synchronization is complete, try sharing the workbook again. Reference: Fix OneDrive sync problems.

3/ Sign out and sign back into Microsoft 365

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Go to File > Account.
    3. Select Sign out.
    4. Close all Microsoft 365 applications.
    5. Reopen Excel and sign in using the account associated with the workbook.
    6. Try sharing the workbook again.

4/ Check whether the issue affects other workbooks

Create a new Excel workbook, save it to OneDrive, and try sharing it with editing permissions.

This will help determine whether the issue is specific to the original workbook or affects sharing more generally.

Please let us know the following:

    1. Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school Microsoft 365 account?
    2. Are you experiencing this issue in the Excel desktop application, Excel for the web, or both?
    3. Is the workbook stored locally on your computer, in OneDrive, or in SharePoint?
    4. Can you successfully share other Excel workbooks, or does the same error occur with every workbook?

Your answers will help us narrow down the cause and suggest the next appropriate steps.

    Kind regards,
