Contact Microsoft Support and request a refund for the first of the two Windows 11 digital-license orders, providing both order numbers so the agent can identify the duplicate purchase.
Request the refund
- Sign in to Microsoft account order history using the Microsoft account used for the purchases.
- Select Payment & billing > Order history.
- Find both Windows 11 purchases and verify that both show Completed or Redeemed. An In progress transaction has not yet posted to the payment method.^1^
- Open Order details for each purchase and record:
- Both order numbers
- Purchase dates and amounts
- The order you want refunded
- If the unwanted order provides a Request a refund option, submit it there.
- If that option is absent, go to Microsoft Support while signed in:
- Enter Duplicate Windows 11 purchase – request a refund.
- Select Get Help, then Contact Support.
- Choose the relevant Windows/Microsoft Store billing category.
- Select Chat with a support agent or Request a call.
- Explain that the first transaction appeared blocked, so you purchased again, but both transactions completed. Ask the agent to refund the first order while retaining the second license.
This escalation matches a reported Windows 11 Store case in which two purchases completed after the first appeared unsuccessful; the accepted resolution was to contact Microsoft Support for the duplicate-order refund.^2^
If only one order appears
If your bank shows two posted charges but Order history contains only one purchase, use Microsoft account > Payment options > Investigate. Microsoft notes that the other charge can be associated with another Microsoft account using the same card.^3^
If one bank entry is still pending rather than posted, it may be an authorization hold rather than a completed second purchase. Give Support the bank transaction details, but do not share full card or account numbers in this public forum.
After approval
Track the refund under Order history. When its status says Microsoft has issued the refund, allow a few days for the payment provider to credit it.^4^
