Windows 11 laptop randomly freezes completely

My laptop has been experiencing random, complete system freezes. I’m looking for help identifying the cause and fixing the issue before resorting to a clean Windows reinstall. Laptop: GIGABYTE AERO X16 1WH, Windows 11, Version 26H2OS build: 26300.9711,GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, Integrated GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics.

The laptop freezes completely at random times, the screen stops updating, the mouse and keyboard become unresponsive, and pressing Caps Lock no longer toggles its indicator. The keyboard’s RGB lighting remains on.

The only way to recover is to hold down the power button to force the laptop to shut down. I feel like it happens mostly when i actually do something on the laptop and not when I leave it idle.

I have literally the same issue on my laptop. It's ROG Zephyrus G14 2026 with RTX 5070 GPU as well, and this issue started like two hours ago for me, and it happened three times already. I had to hard reset each time. I updated Windows to the latest version, and my NVIDIA drivers too. It doesn't help

@Elias Outgate I've also done those and even reverted back to the Nvidia drivers found on Gigabyte's website, but to no avail. If you happen to find a fix please keep me informed!

@AndRei I think my issue is fixed now. I've updated my BIOS to the latest version, as long as the latest Windows update and drivers from Asus and Armoury Crate Asus app. Hope it helps!

I have the exact same problem on the same laptop, but with an RTX 5050 GPU. In my case, the issue started while using Cursor IDE; I thought that switching to VS Code would solve it, but the same thing happened yesterday—it froze while I was using the Kilo extension (for connecting to AI providers), and the only way to recover the laptop (which has a Ryzen 7 AI 350 and 16 GB of RAM) is to restart it.

My specifications:

AMD Ryzen AI 7 350

NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU (8 GB)

AMD Radeon 860M

32 GB RAM

Since November 4–5, my laptop has been experiencing frequent complete system freezes. The screen becomes completely unresponsive, the keyboard and mouse stop working, and the only way to recover is to force a shutdown using the power button.

On November 5 alone, I experienced more than 10 freezes.

I've already tried different NVIDIA driver versions, including rolling back from 621.xx to 617.42, disabling overlays and hardware acceleration, and testing with several background services disabled. Unfortunately, the freezes continued.

I find your MUX Switch observation particularly interesting. I haven't yet confirmed whether switching to Dedicated GPU Only mode resolves the issue on my unit, but I am planning to investigate this.

I've also found other reports involving AERO X16 1WH laptops with the same Ryzen AI 7 350 platform and similar symptoms.

Has anyone else with an AERO X16 1VH/1WH experienced these complete system freezes?

More importantly, has GIGABYTE acknowledged this issue or provided any official guidance?

I've already opened a technical support case with GIGABYTE and would like to know whether this could be a wider BIOS/EC, GiMATE, MUX switching, or AMD/NVIDIA driver compatibility issue.

I would really appreciate any additional reports or findings from other owners.

Same thing started happening to me for last 3 days. I have exact same laptop with you. Gigabyte aero x16 RTX 5070 32 Ram Amd AI 7 350. I enabled Discrete Graphic (dGPU) Only (MUX Switch) from GiMate and it works well for now. Since this setting sets your RTX card work anytime you use your pc because it basicly disables AMD Integrated Graphics.

For my laptop when I checked Device Manager after some of these crashes I see (43) Error for my RTX graphic card. So I decided to do that. I think they will fix it with some sort of update.

Thank you for that information. Since the AMD driver or the processor itself of the PC is causing this. Kindly download and install the latest BIOS update from your manufacturer's website. Moreover, if the issue persists, we will check and make sure there are no software-related issues. I suggest doing an in-place upgrade, which will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Hi, thank you for that information. Let us start by disabling unnecessary running services on the PC. If that resolves the issue, manually turn on each service to determine which app is causing the issue:

Do a clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
Close Task Manager.
On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, the logs you have sent is on .MTA format. Is there a chance that you can get the .Evtx format by following the steps below:

Press the Windows key + X, then select "Event Viewer"

Click the drop-down of "Windows logs"

Right-click System > click Filter Current logs > Check: Critical, Warning, and Error > Hit OK

On the right pane, click "Save Filtered Log File As..."

Save the System logs file to your desktop and share it by following the steps from the link:
