My Computer is Microsoft Surface laptop

Thank you for letting me know.

If the battery is consistently stopping at exactly 80%, then Surface Smart Charging is most likely enabled.

Open the "Surface" app > "Battery & charging" > "Smart charging." If you see "Charge to 100%," select it.

    Microsoft explains this here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/battery/smart-charging-on-surface

If it is not actually stopping at exactly 80%, let me know what percentage it stops at.

    Thanks!

    Hi, @Inna Vaynberg

What is the exact brand and model of your computer?

A charging limit of exactly 80% is usually controlled by the computer manufacturer rather than Windows.

Please check whether your computer has a manufacturer app installed, such as Lenovo Vantage, MyASUS, Dell Power Manager/Dell Optimizer, or an HP utility. Open the app and check the "Battery," "Power," or "Charging" section for settings such as "Battery Protection," "Conservation Mode," or a charging limit.

If it is set to 80%, change it to full charging or 100%.

What is the exact brand and model of your computer? I can then point you to the specific setting.

If the battery stops at 80%, that is often expected behavior from Smart charging. It limits charging below 100% to help reduce battery wear.

To charge to 100% on a Surface device:

    1. Open Start and launch the Surface app.
    2. Select Battery & charging.
    3. In Smart charging, select Charge to 100%.
    4. If available, set Charging mode to Adaptive later to let Smart charging turn back on automatically.

If the Surface app offers Limit to 80%, switch that off by changing Charging mode from Limit to 80% to Adaptive or Charge to 100%.

To help extend battery life over time:

    • Avoid keeping the battery at 100% all the time.
    • Try to keep the battery roughly between 20% and 80% several times a week.
    • Avoid charging or using the device in high temperatures.
    • For long-term storage, keep the battery around 40% to 60%.
    • If the device is plugged in for long periods, keep Smart charging enabled when full capacity is not needed.

If the battery also discharges fast, reduced battery capacity may be the cause. In Windows, lower battery capacity means the battery holds less charge than when it was new, so battery life becomes shorter and charging is needed more often.
