Why Don't Tasks Assigned To Me in Microsoft Planner Don't Show Up in To Do?

I have two plans set up in Microsoft Planner.  When I assign tasks to myself in one of the plans they show up as assigned to me in Microsoft To-Do, however in the other plan which is in a different group that I'm a member of, the tasks assigned to me do not show up in Microsoft To-Do.  Why is it they show up from a plan in one group but not from plan in another group?

    Hi John,

Thank you for explaining the difference between the two plans.

Since tasks from one plan appear correctly, your Microsoft To Do connection is likely enabled, and the issue may be related to the affected plan’s type, task assignment, or group membership.

    Please check the following:

    1. Check whether the affected plan is Premium

Tasks from both Basic and Premium plans can appear in To Do > Assigned to me. However, for a Premium plan, you must be a member of the Microsoft 365 group associated with that specific plan. Having access to the plan or being assigned a task may not be sufficient if the group membership is not recognized correctly.

    1. Verify the Premium task assignment

Open the affected task and confirm that it is assigned directly to the same work account you use to sign in to Microsoft To Do. This is particularly important if you have multiple work accounts, aliases, or guest access to another organization.

    1. Confirm the group membership
    • Ask the plan owner to verify that your account appears as an active member of the exact group connected to the Premium plan.
    • If it already does, they can remove and re-add your account to refresh the membership.
    1. Create a new test task
    • After confirming the assignment and group membership, create a new task in the affected plan and assign it only to yourself.
    • Then check Planner > My Tasks > Assigned to me and To Do > Assigned to me.
    • Microsoft Planner supports assigned tasks from both Basic and Premium plans in the consolidated Assigned to me view.
    1. Check the To Do connection
    • In Microsoft To Do, open Settings, make sure Assigned to me is enabled under Smart lists.

    • Confirm that Planner is enabled under Connected apps.

Please note that Premium tasks have limited editing capabilities in To Do. You may need to open the task in Planner to edit certain Premium fields, but the task should still appear in Assigned to me when the assignment and group membership requirements are met.

I hope your issue gets resolved soon. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
