Is there a way to retrieve work when Copilot says I need to start a New Topic?

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A

    Hello @Gail Black ,

If Copilot Chat is asking you to "Start a New Topic", that usually means the conversation has reached its context limit, but it does not necessarily mean your previous work has been deleted.

    A few things to check:

    • Open the Chat History (if available in your Copilot experience) and look for the previous conversation. You may still be able to view and copy the earlier content.
    • If the chat is still accessible, start a new topic and ask Copilot to continue using a summary or key information copied from the previous conversation.
    • If the conversation no longer loads or the content is missing entirely, there is typically no self-service method to recover context that was not saved elsewhere.

To help narrow this down, could you clarify:

    • Which Copilot product you're using (Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Chat in Microsoft 365, Copilot Pro, etc.)?
    • Can you still see the old conversation in your chat history, or is it completely inaccessible?

That will help determine whether the conversation can be recovered or whether you'll need to recreate the context in a new chat.
