An Azure for Students account does not necessarily have access to one of the few regions that a Static Web App may be deployed to. How can one request access to a suitable region?

Hi,

Unfortunately if none of the Static Web App regions (Central US, East US 2, West US 2, West Europe, East Asia) are included in your five allowed regions for your Azure for Students subscription you cannot deploy a SWA. What you can usually do instead is use App Service with Free SKU in one of your five allowed regions.

There is no ability to request access to the SWA regions since Azure for Students has the Allowed resource deployment regions policy assignment, which you cannot modify, and Azure for Students blocks you from submitting quota request.

I know it can be frustrating, but they have placed many limitations on Azure for Students subscriptions to help deal with capacity limitations.

Use an Azure support request for region access.

For Azure region access requests in general:

    1. In the Azure portal, go to Help + support and select Create a new support request.
    2. Set Issue Type to Service and subscription Limit (quotas).
    3. Select the relevant Subscription.
    4. Continue with the quota flow and provide the requested region details.
    5. Submit the ticket with current contact details so Support can follow up if needed.

For reserved access regions, the documented flow is:

    1. In New support request, set:
      • Issue Type: Service and subscription Limit (quotas)
      • Subscription: the affected subscription
      • Quota type: Other Requests
    2. In the description, enter a request such as: Request access for the Azure <region name> Regions for <organization name>
    3. Include the initial deployment details requested in the form, such as region, deployment model, and planned compute, storage, and SQL usage.
    4. Create the support ticket.

After the request is submitted, it goes through the standard support process and may be reviewed by Azure Engineering. If approved, the requested region appears in the portal and resources can then be deployed there.

For Static Web Apps specifically, the service is global for static assets, but the managed Azure Functions app is deployed in the region selected when the app is created. If the needed Functions region is not available, the documented alternative is Bring your own Functions app with a separately deployed Functions app.
