Hi, I recently went back into Co-Pilot on Friday and was force logged into another version which has meant my historical prompts and groupings have now been lost. Is there a way to get those back by any chance?

I've had a look at the history and there is gaps it shows the last few weeks and then skips to last years history.

    Hello a-Abdiweli Abdi,

I understand you’re trying to recover the missing conversations and the way you had organised them.

Microsoft documents that some chats may temporarily be missing while content moves to the updated Copilot app. This could fit what you’re seeing, although it doesn’t confirm the cause in your account.

    Please check:

    • If your “groupings” were Projects, look under Notebooks in the left navigation. Projects have been renamed.
    • Look for any in-app migration message or link to access your existing chats.
    • Confirm you’re using the same account and sign-in method as before, then close and reopen Copilot or refresh the webpage.

See Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance for content in the updated Copilot app.

If the gap remains, could you confirm whether “groupings” means Projects or shared Group Chats? Microsoft handles these differently: Projects move to Notebooks, but Group Chat content does not carry forward.

If signed in, Copilot keeps conversation history and retains the last 18 months of interactions. In the Copilot app, missing history can happen if the account changed, some items were deleted, or all activity history was cleared.

    Try this:

    1. Confirm the same sign-in account is being used as before. Conversation history is tied to the signed-in account.
    2. Open the conversation history directly:
      • On copilot.com, history appears on the left. If it is hidden, open the sidebar from the upper-left.
      • In Copilot for Windows, history appears on the left. If it is hidden, open the sidebar from the upper-left.
      • In the mobile app, open the menu to view history.
    3. If only recent chats and much older chats appear, check whether any chats were deleted. Individual items can be removed from history from the three-dot menu or by right-clicking in the desktop app.
    4. If using a personal Microsoft account, check whether all Copilot activity history was deleted from the privacy dashboard. If it was deleted, there is no recovery step provided here. The privacy dashboard also allows exporting all remaining activity history.
    5. If the issue started after being moved to a different app version, verify in another supported surface such as copilot.com while signed in with the same account.

For personal Microsoft accounts, activity history can be managed here:

    • Sign in to the privacy dashboard.
    • Go to Privacy > Empower your productivity > Copilot > Your Copilot app activity history > Copilot apps.
    • Use Export all activity history to download a CSV of what is still available.

For work or school accounts, chat history is available in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat from the Chats list on the left, where chats can also be renamed, moved to a notebook, or deleted.
