Cannot Install Office Applications

Cannot Install Office Applications after Uninstalling for an error with the Office Applications. The error is attached.

User's image

I get a different error before that one, but can only add one attachment into the ticket for some reason. And yes, the internet connection is fine and there is plenty of space. This is on a user machine within a business. The user can use office apps from the same account completely fine on another machine.

Before and after uninstalling, I've tried rebooting the machine; repair the application with both online and quick repair (before uninstall only, obviously); ran sfc /scannow; Reinstalled the OS via 'fresh start' in Intune; and ran office support assistant SARA. Please assist in providing a solution for me that I can work with the user on.

    Hi O'Donnell,

Thank you for providing the additional information and the screenshot.

The Intune status shows repeated error 0x0000426A, which corresponds to the 17002 error displayed by the Office installer. It also shows one occurrence of 0x0000426E, indicating that an Office application or background process was still running during one of the installation attempts.

Before trying again, restart the device and make sure that no Office applications or related processes, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, or Teams, are running in Task Manager.

Regarding the Office Deployment Tool, setup.exe may close immediately if it is opened by double-clicking. It needs to be run from an elevated Command Prompt together with a valid configuration XML file, for example:

    setup.exe /download configuration.xml

    setup.exe /configure configuration.xml

Since Office is already assigned through Intune, also check that it is not being deployed through another method at the same time, such as a separate Win32 app or another Microsoft 365 Apps assignment. Overlapping deployments could interfere with the installation.

If the deployment continues to fail after these checks, I recommend asking someone with access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to submit a support request. Include the following information:

If the installation still fails, I would recommend having someone with access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (such as a Global Admin) submit a support request and include errors 30015-13, 0-2031, 0x0000426A, and 0x0000426E, along with the screenshot and deployment configuration.

I hope this can be resolved soon.

    Hi there 😊

Check your Intune settings to make sure Office isn't trying to install automatically in the background while you are trying to install it manually. Overlapping installs will cause conflicts.

Switch networks and try installing using a mobile hotspot. A company firewall, proxy, or antivirus could be blocking the connection.

Open "Services" on the PC and verify that the Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service is set to Automatic and is currently running.

Use the Office Deployment Tool (ODT) to install Office via the command line, which bypasses common installer bugs and downloads the files directly.

    Hi O'Donnell,

Thank you for sharing the detailed information and the troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Since the same account can use the Office applications successfully on another computer, this appears more likely to be specific to the affected device or its Office deployment rather than the user’s license.

As the device is managed through Intune, please ask your IT administrator to check the following:

    1. Go to Intune admin center > Apps > Windows > select the Microsoft 365 Apps deployment > Device install status, then check whether the affected device shows a failure and note any additional error details.
    2. Confirm whether Office is assigned through Intune. If it is, avoid installing Office separately from the Microsoft 365 portal, as overlapping deployment methods may cause conflicts.
    3. On the affected computer, open Services and verify that Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service is present, set to Automatic, and running.
    4. If permitted by your organization, test the installation using a different network, such as a mobile hotspot. Your IT administrator may also need to check whether a proxy, VPN, firewall, antivirus, or endpoint security solution is interfering with the Office installation.
    5. Should the installation continues to fail, the IT administrator can try installing Office using the Office Deployment Tool and collect the installation logs for further investigation.

If needed, your IT team can also raise a support ticket with Microsoft Support through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. They have access to backend configurations and can perform a more in-depth investigation. At the very least, they can provide the most effective workaround to ensure your experience remains smooth and secure.

I hope this information helps move the case forward. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.
