To locate a missing Outlook mailbox, start with the places where mail is commonly moved or hidden:
- Check Junk Email. Messages can be marked as junk by another mail app. If found there, select the message and choose Report > Not junk.
- Check Deleted Items. If the mailbox content was moved there, select the message and choose Restore. If it is not visible, in Deleted Items select Recover items deleted from this folder and restore what is still recoverable.
- Messages removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days in Outlook.com.
- Items restored from Recoverable Items go back to Deleted Items first, then can be moved to Inbox or another folder.
- Check Archive. Archived mail does not appear in the inbox. If found, select the message and choose Move to > Inbox.
- Check the Other tab if Focused Inbox is enabled. The missing mail may have been moved there.
- Check the Filter menu above the message list and set it to All so messages are not hidden by a filter.
- Check Rules settings. An Inbox rule or Sweep rule may be moving messages to another folder. Rules can be viewed and edited on a computer.
- Check recent sign-in activity for the Microsoft account if there is concern that someone else accessed the account.
If the issue is that an entire archive mailbox is missing in classic Outlook for Windows, the documented checks are:
- Update Outlook for Windows to the latest version.
- Verify that the account has an Exchange Online license that supports archive mailboxes.
- If the mailbox is accessed as a delegate, verify Full Access permission is assigned directly, not through a security group.
- Run the Classic Outlook Advanced Diagnostics troubleshooter on the same Windows device where classic Outlook is installed.
If the mailbox or messages still cannot be found after these checks, use Outlook.com support from Help in the menu bar, or the Outlook.com Community.
