Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
For an sbcglobal/AT&T/Yahoo-type account in Outlook, the most relevant next step is to force Outlook to forget the old sign-in token and prompt for sign-in again.
- Close Outlook.
- Open Credential Manager in Windows.
- Select Windows Credentials.
- Find the entries named MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 for the affected Yahoo/AT&T account.
- Remove those entries for that account.
- Reopen Outlook and sign in to the account again.
- If it still does not sync immediately, restart Outlook once more after signing in.
If Outlook still cannot receive mail after that, also check these common causes in Outlook:
- Make sure Outlook is not in Working Offline mode: in classic Outlook, if Working Offline appears at the bottom of the window, go to Send/Receive and turn off Work Offline.
- Verify the internet connection by opening a website in a browser.
- Review the account settings and password stored in Outlook. If the password was changed with the email provider, it must be changed with the provider first, then updated in Outlook.
If the issue is specifically in Outlook.com on the web, Microsoft has removed the ability to connect and sync new third-party accounts such as Gmail and Yahoo directly inside Outlook.com. In that case, the supported options are to:
- add the account in Outlook mobile
- add it in new Outlook or classic Outlook for Windows
- add it in Outlook for Mac
- or forward mail from the third-party account to Outlook.com
Warning: some advanced fixes for Yahoo/Gmail sync issues involve deleting identity keys in the Windows registry. That is riskier and should be used only if credential removal does not work, because incorrect registry changes can affect Outlook sign-in behavior.
