Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
For Outlook for Windows, Block Sender does not stop delivery completely. It moves future messages from that sender to Junk Email.
For large volumes of spam, use these options:
- Block the sender or domain
- In Outlook on the web: Settings > Mail > Junk email
- Under Blocked senders and domains, add the sender address or the whole domain.
- Blocking the domain is usually more effective than blocking one address at a time when spammers keep changing usernames.
- Create a rule to delete matching mail automatically
- Go to Settings > Mail > Rules > Add new rule.
- Create a rule that matches the sender address or domain.
- Set the action to Delete or move it to Junk Email.
- This avoids deleting messages one by one.
- Report phishing or spam
- Use Report > Phishing on those messages.
- This helps improve filtering for similar messages.
- Use Safe Senders for wanted mail
- In Settings > Mail > Junk email, add trusted addresses or domains under Safe senders and domains so wanted messages are less likely to be filtered incorrectly.
- Important limitation
- For personal Outlook.com accounts, there is no option in Outlook for Windows to fully reject a sender before delivery. Blocking mainly causes mail to be filtered as junk.
If the spam comes from many changing addresses, blocking individual senders is usually less effective than blocking domains and adding delete rules.
