This usually means the Microsoft account being used is no longer eligible for the startup credit offer flow, or the credits are not activated on the account currently signed in.
Check these items in order:
- Confirm the account type
Microsoft for Startups requires a personal Microsoft account (MSA). Work or school accounts aren’t supported for sign-up or credit activation.
- Confirm the same account is being used
Credits must be activated and accessed with the same Microsoft account used during the Microsoft for Startups registration and activation flow.
- Check whether the credits were ever fully activated
Azure credits must be activated within 90 days of accepting the program agreement. If not activated in time, the offer expires and reapplication is required.
- Check whether the credits are visible in Azure billing
In the Azure portal, go to Cost Management + Billing → Payment methods. After successful activation, credits can take several hours to appear.
- Check for prior redemption conflicts
If the account has already redeemed Azure credits from another Microsoft program, activation can fail with errors such as Already redeemed. In that case, the account may need support review.
- If Azure bills are now appearing
Once credits are fully consumed, Azure subscriptions automatically transition to pay-as-you-go billing. Charges can also happen if:
- the service used is not covered by Azure credits
- credits are exhausted
- usage is under a different billing profile or account
- Contact Microsoft for Startups Program Support
Program Support handles:
- Azure credit activation issues
- incorrect sponsorship offer type
- credit expiration or usage questions
- billing profile issues
- entitlement and owner-account corrections
Support requests are submitted through the Azure portal using the Get Program Support button under Your Microsoft Team.
