requests time out under heavy data loads

Good day!

Our applications experience request timeouts when processing large amounts of data. How can we troubleshoot the timeout issue and adjust the relevant Windows Server settings to ensure requests are processed reliably under heavy workloads?

BRs,

Jack.

    Hello Jack,

Timeouts under heavy loads usually stem from a mix of application limits and Windows Server resource constraints. First, check IIS settings: in Application Pools, increase the “Queue Length” and adjust web.config values like <httpRuntime executionTimeout> to allow longer processing. On the OS side, tune TCP/IP parameters under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters; raising MaxUserPort to 65534 and lowering TcpTimedWaitDelay to 30 seconds helps avoid port exhaustion. If SQL Server is involved, increase the remote query timeout beyond the default 600 seconds. Monitor system performance with perfmon.msc to confirm CPU, memory, and connection usage under load. If resources are maxed out, scaling hardware or load balancing may be required. For workloads that inherently take long, consider offloading them to background jobs instead of synchronous requests.

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!

    HP.
