If the goal is to create copies of the CSL31 sheet and rename them to match sheet names from another workbook, these are the supported Excel options from the available guidance:
- Right-click the
CSL31 worksheet tab.
- Select Move or Copy.
- In Move selected sheets to Book, select (new book) if the sheet must be saved separately, or copy within the workbook if staying in the same workbook.
- Select Create a copy if the original
CSL31 sheet must remain unchanged.
- After the copy is created, rename the copied sheet:
- Double-click the sheet tab and type the new name, or
- Right-click the sheet tab and select Rename.
Worksheet naming rules:
- Name cannot be blank.
- Name cannot be more than 31 characters.
- Name cannot contain
/ \ ? * : [ ].
- Name cannot begin or end with an apostrophe (
').
- Name cannot be
History.
Important limitation:
- Excel does not allow duplicate worksheet names in the same workbook. The example provided lists
TK_GV_vorlaufend twice. If both copied tabs are in the same workbook, the second one cannot use the exact same name. One of them must be different, such as:
-
TK_GV_vorlaufend
-
TK_GV_vorlaufend_2
If copying a worksheet into another workbook triggers a Name Conflict dialog box, that means both workbooks contain similar named ranges. Excel will prompt to use the existing name or rename the one being copied.
If using Excel for the web, duplicating within the current workbook is available by right-clicking the sheet tab and selecting Duplicate. If duplication fails because the sheet contains a chart, picture, or shape, copy all data with CTRL+C and paste into a new blank worksheet with CTRL+V. Note that conditional formatting is lost in that manual method.
