To uninstall the old Office/Word version on a Mac:

    1. Sign in to the Mac with an administrator account.
    2. Quit all Office apps.
    3. Open Finder > Applications.
    4. Select the Microsoft 365/Office apps to remove, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook.
    5. Right-click the selected apps and choose Move to Bin.

    To remove leftover Office files:

    1. In Finder, press Shift+Command+G.
    2. Enter ~/Library and select Go.
    3. Open Containers and move these folders to Bin if they exist:
      • Microsoft Error Reporting
      • Microsoft Excel
      • com.microsoft.netlib.shipassertprocess
      • com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2
      • Microsoft Outlook
      • Microsoft PowerPoint
      • com.microsoft.RMS-XPCService
      • Microsoft Word
      • Microsoft OneNote
    4. Go back to Library, open Group Containers, and move these folders to Bin if they exist:
      • UBF8T346G9.ms
      • UBF8T346G9.Office
      • UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost

    Important:

    • If Outlook is installed, deleting its related folders can remove Outlook data. Back up those folders first.
    • If Office apps are pinned to the Dock, remove them from the Dock.
    • Restart the Mac to complete the uninstall.

If only Word was installed as a standalone app, remove just Microsoft Word from Applications. If Word was installed as part of an Office suite, the Mac uninstall steps remove the Office apps together.
