Azure Database for MySQL: Restoration in France Central Fails Due to Region Support Limitations

Problem description

I am trying to restore a backup of an Azure Database for MySQL flexible server in the France Central region because my database is corrupted. The restore operation fails with the error 'ProvisionNotSupportedForRegion' and a message indicating that provisioning in the requested region is not supported, which I believe is due to regional support limitations.

Environment

Service: Azure Database for MySQL flexible server; Requested region: France Central; Deployment method: ARM; Scenario: restoration of a backup without geo-redundancy.

What I've already tried

I attempted to restore the backup using an ARM template. I checked the availability of Azure Database for MySQL flexible server in France Central and confirmed that the service is available there. I also verified the subscription quotas and capacity in France Central and found that the SKU and configuration requested are not available due to capacity restrictions or that the region does not support provisioning for this subscription.

Current status

The last status indicates a provisioning failure in France Central, and I am seeking guidance on whether the region supports this operation for my subscription or if I need to consider alternative solutions or regions.

@Informática AEC

The ProvisionNotSupportedForRegion error does not mean the service is unavailable in France Central. It means your subscription is not currently enabled to provision new Azure Database for MySQL flexible servers in that region because of capacity restrictions. A point-in-time restore always creates a new server, so it is subject to the same restriction.

Since geo-redundant backup is not enabled on your server, the restore can only be performed in France Central, the same region as the source server.

To resolve this, submit a region access request in the Azure portal. Go to Help + support > Create a support request, select Service and subscription limits (quotas) as the issue type and Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server as the quota type. Then choose Region access, select France Central, and enter the vCores needed. Please mention that this is for recovering a corrupted database so the request can be prioritized.

In the meantime, you can also try the restore with a smaller compute size or the Burstable tier, with no availability zone preference. You can scale the server back up once the restore succeeds. Also, check that your required restore point is still within the backup retention period, and increase retention on the source server if needed.

    Thanks for your answers, both have being useful, specially the detailed one of SAI JAGADEESH KUDIPUDI.

    I've submited a region access request in the Azure portal.
