Setting up a new iMac and purchased Microsoft 365 Business Standard with the PC.

  • The Mac arrived with the Boxed MS 365 Business Standard and Product Key Card
  • Set up the Mac
  • Followed the microsoft365.com/setupbusiness URL and Entered the product key.
  • Went through the screens providing all her information email address phone, physical address etc.
  • given a screen saying all was set up and asked to set up credit card for next years auto-renewal.
  • Provided the information and noticed that the 1.00 charge and removal on my credit card. Also received an email that setup was successful.
  • Went to logon to the admin console with the email and password I setup.
  • I received a message that no account existed for that user. It seems that MS setup some other account as the account administrator and didn't provide it to me.
  • NOW: I can't logon to the admin console since I didn't have the account information.
  • Today I set up an MS account with her email and password, It logs on fine, but can't logon to the admin console (aka.ms/mac365 or admin.cloud.microsoft)
  • Repeatedly MS support calls tell me to logon to the account at the above aka.ms URL to remedy the situation. No support whatsoever with repeated auto attendant calls saying only online support.
  • So how do I recover an admin account that I don't know what it is?
  • Worked in IT for over 30 years and this is the worst/nonexistent support that I've ever had.
  • No access to software that was paid for and a credit card set up for auto renewal next year.
  • 10 times I've tried to get through to MS on the phone.

    Hi Bobbie,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Based on your description, this appears to be a case where the business administrator account created during setup is different from the personal Microsoft account.

Please check the personal mailbox used during the Microsoft 365 Business Standard setup, including the Junk and Spam folders, for an email containing the administrator sign-in details.

The administrator account is usually a separate work account with a username ending in .onmicrosoft.com, such as: ******@company.onmicrosoft.com

Once you locate the username, use it with the password created during the original setup to sign in at https://admin.microsoft.com. The personal Microsoft account created afterward is separate and will not provide access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share. I’m always happy to assist further if needed.
