For a wireless mouse on Windows 11, use this order of checks:

    1. Check the hardware first
      • Make sure the mouse has fresh batteries or is fully charged.
      • Check that there is no dirt blocking the sensor.
      • If it uses a USB receiver, unplug it, wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
      • Try a different USB port on the HP desktop.
      • If the mouse is connected through a USB hub, make sure the hub has power. If possible, connect the receiver directly to the PC.
      • Inspect the mouse and cable/receiver for damage.
    2. Check the wireless connection
      • If the mouse has a Reset button on the bottom, press it to disconnect and reconnect the wireless connection.
      • For a USB wireless receiver, unplugging and reconnecting the receiver can reestablish the connection.
      • If the mouse uses Bluetooth, make sure the mouse is turned on, in range, and not too close to other USB 3.0 devices, which can interfere with Bluetooth.
    3. Verify Bluetooth settings in Windows 11
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
      • If the mouse does not appear in the device list, go to Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
      • Under Device settings > Bluetooth devices discovery, change the setting to Advanced.
      • If the mouse is listed but not working correctly, remove it and pair it again from Bluetooth & devices > Devices by selecting More options > Remove device > Yes.
    4. Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
      • On Windows 11, run the automated Bluetooth troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
    5. Update the mouse or Bluetooth driver
      • Open Check for updates from the taskbar search box, then select Check for updates under Windows Update.
      • If needed, open Device Manager, find the mouse or Bluetooth device, open its Driver tab, and select Update Driver.
    6. Test whether the mouse itself is failing
      • Connect the mouse to another PC.
      • If it does not work there either, the mouse may need to be replaced.
      • Some devices require the correct driver on the other PC for testing.
    7. Adjust mouse settings if the connection works but behavior is poor
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
      • Review the mouse settings there and adjust behavior as needed.
