Since I can't sign in to my account in minecraft to play the game I BOUGHT ALREADY, I figured I'd ask here how to play it without microsoft. Someone can either tell me how to get around microsoft, or an actual human from microsoft will see it and maybe then I can get some actual help to get into the game.

Just for assuage any misgivings about this. I bought the game about a year ago (for a 2nd time) from microsoft. I played it until about 7 months ago. I've been wanting to play again lately so I tried to log in today. It's telling me it can't sign me into to xbox live with code 0x80090036. I went through all of microsoft's 'support' which boiled down to
'we expect users to solve their own technical issues' from their wonderfully effective AI support system. Well, this is me trying to solve my own issues. So happy to crowd source any way to cut microsoft out of the equation here, and maybe, just maybe, get microsoft's attention to fix some issue... or not and find a way to not bother with microsoft at all. both are good for me, but I'm absolutely not buying this game a 3rd time.Screenshot 2026-07-25 170755

    Hi master shake

I understand your frustration. If you already own Minecraft, you should not need to buy it again. Unfortunately, there is no supported way to play Minecraft Java or Bedrock on PC without signing in to the Microsoft account that owns the license.

    Try these steps first:

    1. Sign in to the Xbox app using the Microsoft account that purchased Minecraft, then launch Minecraft again.
    2. Verify you're using the correct account by checking your Microsoft order history and confirming Minecraft is listed on that account.
    3. Restart Xbox services on Windows:
    • Press Win + R, type services.msc
    • Restart Xbox Live Auth Manager
      • Restart Xbox Live Networking Service
      • Restart Gaming Services
      • Reboot your PC and try again

    Contact Minecraft Support:

    1. Go to https://help.minecraft.net/
    2. Select Contact Us (if available)
    3. Provide:
      • The error code 0x80090036
      • Your Minecraft purchase details
      • The troubleshooting steps you've already tried

If the license is on your account, support can help investigate the sign-in issue. As this is a public forum, please do not post your email address, order numbers, or other personal information since no one here can have a look into your account and what's behind the scene, only official support can.

Hope you'll get this sorted out!
