Shared mailboxes in New Outlook - can no longer categorise emails?

I can no longer categorise emails in shared mailboxes within New Outlook. This just started very recently. I used to right click and click Catagorise and then choose a category. It still works in OWA, but not New Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook Version: 1.2026.114.100

Client Version: 20260116004.03

WebView2 Version: 144.0.3719.93

The message numbers on the inbox favourite stopped a while back, as did the ability to drag and drop emails to another fav folder, but I see in other posts that should be fixed with an update soon to come out. Is this related?

Its a new issue for me on top of the existing issues with new emails count and drag and drop. See screenshots below:-

I'm having the same problem since a recent update.

I have done the repair, uninstall/reinstall, and cache-clearing troubleshooting suggested in this thread and I am still seeing a grayed out "Categorize" option.

     Hello @Ali Graham,

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum.

After receiving your information, I tested this scenario in my own test environment.

At the moment, both New Outlook and Outlook on the Web are still showing the Categorize option for shared mailboxes on my side, and my Microsoft Outlook Version, Client Version, and WebView2 Version are the same as yours.

According to the Microsoft article here: Manage shared mailbox settings in new Outlook - Microsoft Support

If possible, could you please share a screenshot of what you see under the Categories Section in Settings to check whether the shared mailbox is listed there?

Additionally, before guiding you reach out to support team, you can try basic troubleshoot steps:

    1.Repair and uninstall:

    • You select Apps in setting => Installed apps => scroll down to find Outlook.
    • You click on it, then select Advance Setting, click on it, then select Advanced options
    • You can scroll down and click Repair.

User's image If Repair does not resolve the issue, you can also try selecting Uninstall and then reinstall New Outlook.

    2.Clear New Outlook cache:

    • You can close the new Outlook app and press the Windows + R => Type or paste the following command “olk.exe --devtools “ in the Run box and click OK (Be sure to include a space before the two dashes if typing the command manually)
    • In the DevTools window, click the Application button on the toolbar.
    • In the left pane, under the Storage section, find the https://outlook.office.com link under Local Storage. Right-click on this link and select Clear.

    undefined

    • Still in the left pane, locate the https://outlook.office.com link under Cookies, right-click on it and select Clear.

    undefined

    • Finally, you can close the DevTools window.

More detail you can refer this article: How to clear cache in Outlook: new app and classic version

Additionally, you can also try turning off Offline mode, as well as removing and re‑adding the shared mailbox to see if the Categorize option returns.

If you still do not see the Categorize option after trying all of the steps above, please help me confirm the following information so I can guide you more accurately:

    1. I noticed that your post is tagged under “Business.” Are you using a work (organizational) account, or a personal account such as Outlook.com or Hotmail.com?
    2. If this is a work account, could you also check whether other colleagues who share the same mailbox are experiencing the same issue?

Once I have this information, I can guide you on how to reach out to the higher‑level technical support team for deeper investigation.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

OK, uninstalling it and reinstalling it seems to have fixed the issue for me. Repair did not fix it.

    Thankyou
