I want to migrate my personal community teams site to business one but do not know how. Also I had a new email for talk educate listen - [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]@Talkeducatelisten429.onmicrosoft.com but this isnt recognised on my sign in

The new administrator address must end exactly in @Talkeducatelisten429.onmicrosoft.com—not onmicrosoft.-com—and you must sign in with it as a work or school account before rebuilding the personal Community as a business Team.

    1. Access the new business account

    1. Open a private or Incognito browser window so your existing personal Microsoft account is not reused.
    2. Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/signin.
    3. Enter the administrator username with this exact domain ending: @Talkeducatelisten429.onmicrosoft.com
    4. Choose Work or school account if prompted, then use the temporary password created or supplied during purchase.

An onmicrosoft.com address is the initial work-account identity created with Microsoft 365 Business. It is separate from the personal Microsoft account used by your existing Community.^1^ Private browsing is also an official way to avoid being automatically signed in with the wrong account.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365 for business")

Check the introductory email sent to the alternate email address supplied during purchase. It should contain the exact administrator user ID and sign-in information.^1^

    2. If the corrected address is still unrecognized

If Microsoft says that the corrected onmicrosoft.com username does not exist, this may require account-level recovery rather than another Teams sign-in attempt. A closely matching case involving a newly purchased Business account and an unrecognized onmicrosoft.com administrator was directed to Microsoft’s Data Protection Team.^3^

Since you have already been transferred between support teams:

    1. Use Microsoft customer support and select the business/Microsoft 365 route.^4^
    2. State: “This is a newly purchased Microsoft 365 Business tenant. I am the sole administrator, and the onmicrosoft.com administrator username is not recognized.”
    3. Ask for a ticket to be created for the affected tenant and escalated to the Data Protection Team for administrator-access verification.
    4. Keep the purchase confirmation, alternate email address, subscription details, and billing evidence available. Do not post those details publicly.

    3. Rebuild the Community as a business Team

Personal Communities and Teams for work are separate experiences tied to different account types.^5^ The available Microsoft guidance does not provide a direct conversion that moves a personal Community, its membership, and conversations into a business Team. Microsoft also states that Community members, messages, and content do not transfer automatically even when replacing a Community with a group chat.^6^

    After business access works:

    1. In Teams, select your profile picture and switch to the new work account.
    2. Select Chat or Teams → New items → New team.
    3. Name it Talk Educate Listen.
    4. Choose:
      • Private for invited participants only.
      • Public if anyone in your Microsoft 365 organization may join.
    5. Name the first channel and select Create.^7^
    6. Create additional channels for the main subjects or activities from the old Community.
    7. Add existing organization users as members. For people outside the business, select the team’s More options → Add member, enter their email address, and add them as guests. Guest access must be enabled for the organization.^8^

    4. Preserve the existing Community content

Before leaving or deleting the personal Community:

    1. Open https://teams.live.com/dataexport.
    2. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account that owns the Community.
    3. Request the chat history, media, or both.
    4. Return later to check the request and download the export when ready.^6^

The export preserves a copy; it is not an import package for recreating the business Team. Important files will therefore need to be uploaded manually, members reinvited, and essential information reposted in the new channels.

    Hi Toni,

I’m sorry you have spent so much time being transferred between support teams.

The AI answer is generally aligned with the safest approach, but I would first verify the new administrator account before trying to migrate anything.

The address in your message appears to end in onmicrosoft.-com. Please check your purchase confirmation or Microsoft setup email for the exact username. It would normally end in:@talkeducatelisten429.onmicrosoft.com

Please enter the address exactly as shown in that email, preferably in a private or Incognito browser window, and make sure you select Work or school account if prompted.

Also check whether the setup email contains an Accept, Set up this account. You may need to complete that step before the new business account can be used.

Once the business account is accessible, add it to Teams by selecting your profile picture and choosing Add work or school account.

Please note that your personal Microsoft account and new Microsoft 365 work account are separate. Your existing personal Community will not automatically become a business Team. You may need to create a new Team named Talk Educate Listen, invite the members again, and manually move or repost the important files and information.

If the exact administrator username shown in your purchase confirmation is still reported as unrecognized, please visit Contact Microsoft Support, choose Work account and use the telephone number listed for your country or region.

When speaking with the support agent, you can explain:

“I purchased a new Microsoft 365 Business subscription today. The administrator username provided during setup is not recognized, so I cannot sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center or create a support request.”

I hope this helps clarify the next steps. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to let me know.

    Warm regards.
