Microsoft on-premises server product that runs Office Online.
Check Microsoft’s service-health pages for the current incident status and restoration estimate; an exact recovery time cannot be determined from the viewer error alone.
Check the current status
- Public status: Open the Microsoft service health status page and look for an Office on the web or Microsoft 365 incident. ^1^
- Microsoft 365 administrator: Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, then select Health → Service health. Open any relevant incident to see its status, affected services, latest update, and any estimated recovery information. ^2^
- If no incident appears, an administrator can select Report an issue on the Service health page. Microsoft uses these reports to determine whether a narrower issue should be published as an incident or advisory. ^2^
If no outage is listed
The fie1-word-view.officeapps.live.com address is a Word viewer endpoint. Test the original document link—not only the bare wordviewerframe.aspx? address—because the viewer needs the document information supplied by the originating site.
Then try:
- Open the original document link in a private/incognito browser window.
- Test another supported browser or network.
- If the document is publicly accessible, verify that it does not require authentication. Online Viewers cannot open files that require authentication. ^3^
- As a temporary workaround, download the document and open it in a desktop or mobile Office client. Temporary Office Online unavailability does not itself create a risk of document data loss. ^4^
If the error occurs for every document across multiple browsers and networks, report it through Microsoft 365 Service health or Microsoft Support. If it affects only one embedded document, the site owner should verify that the source file remains reachable by Microsoft’s viewer.
