Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Cancel the individual Microsoft 365 subscription, not the Microsoft account. Keep the same Microsoft account so it can receive the shared Family benefits later.
Recommended path:
- Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 with the Microsoft account that purchased the individual subscription.
- Select Cancel subscription. It might appear as Upgrade or Cancel.
- Review the cancellation page and confirm with I don't want my subscription.
- If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of a cancel option, the subscription is already set to expire and no further action is required.
What happens next:
- Access to the current subscription benefits continues until the end of the current billing period unless local laws or purchase terms provide otherwise.
- Files remain intact.
- If the account later loses its paid storage benefit, storage reverts to 5 GB for OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments, and 15 GB for Outlook.com mail storage.
- If usage is over the free allowance, new OneDrive uploads, edits, and sync stop, Outlook.com email send/receive can stop, and after 6 months OneDrive files may be deleted.
For the switch to the wife's Microsoft 365 Family subscription:
- The Microsoft account should be kept.
- After the standalone subscription expires, the account can use the shared Family subscription benefits.
- If removed from or no longer covered by a shared Family subscription later, files remain intact, but paid benefits expire.
If the subscription was purchased through Google Play, Apple App Store, or a third-party retailer, cancellation and refund must be handled with that seller.
