No Microsoft-published incident currently confirms a view.officeapps.live.com PowerPoint outage on October 16, 2026; the authoritative next action is to report the unlisted Office on the web failure through Microsoft 365 admin center → Health → Service health → Report an issue.^1^
What the evidence indicates
Your tests already rule out the usual single-file, customer-account, and origin-host explanations:
- The failure affects unrelated public URLs and all customers.
- The same URLs previously worked, with no integration changes.
- Public source requests return HTTP 200 with appropriate content types.
- Multiple PowerPoint formats fail at the same time.
That pattern is consistent with a shared viewer-side failure, but it is not enough to declare an official incident. A closely matching Viewer report explains that HTTP 200 from /op/embed.aspx only confirms that the viewer shell loaded; the service may still fail later while retrieving or processing the presentation. That report likewise had no confirmed public incident.^2^
.odp is not listed as viewable in Microsoft’s Office for the web format table, but .ppt and .pptx are supported. Therefore, the simultaneous .ppt/.pptx failures cannot be explained solely by the .odp limitation.^3^
Where to check and report it
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with an account permitted to view service health.
- Open Health → Service health.
- Check Active issues Microsoft is working on for an Office on the web incident or advisory.
- Check Issue history in case the incident was posted and resolved.
- If nothing matches, select Report an issue and submit the Viewer failure. Microsoft correlates these reports across organizations and may publish a new incident or advisory if the service is responsible.^1^
- Include:
- First and latest reproduction times in UTC
- The endpoint and exact error text
- A stable public sample
.pptxURL - A failing generated embed URL
- HAR/network trace
- Browser and region
- Any
hid,X-OfficeCluster,X-OfficeVersion, orX-CorrelationIdvalues present in responses - Confirmation that unrelated public files and multiple customers are affected
If Report an issue is unavailable for the account, ask a Microsoft 365 administrator to submit it or open a Microsoft support request. Microsoft’s incident guidance specifically recommends reporting or opening a support request when the problem is absent from Service health.^4^
Why status.cloud.microsoft can remain clear
status.cloud.microsoft is a backup communications page, primarily used when an active issue prevents customers from reaching the Microsoft 365 admin center or its Service Health functionality. It is not a complete public feed of every feature-level or tenant-targeted incident. Consequently, a clear public page does not rule out degradation of the free Viewer endpoint.^4^
Microsoft’s documented channels are:
- Microsoft 365 Service health — primary, tenant-aware incident channel.
- Report an issue / support request — for an impact not listed there.
- status.cloud.microsoft and @MSFT365Status — fallback public channels when Service Health is unavailable or for selected broad events.^1^
Microsoft’s public documentation does not identify a separate status page dedicated specifically to the free view.officeapps.live.com embed Viewer. Until Microsoft posts an incident, use a fallback renderer or direct-download/open-in-PowerPoint option rather than repeatedly changing the already-validated hosting configuration.
