Capturing audio, video, and screen content from Teams meetings for later review or sharing
If the recordings show “This recording has expired”, recovery depends on whether the files are still in the storage recycle bin.
- Check where the recordings were stored:
- Non-channel meeting: the recording is in the meeting organizer’s OneDrive.
- Channel meeting: the recording is in the channel’s SharePoint site.
- Check the recycle bin in that storage location:
- In OneDrive, go to Recycle bin and look for the recording file.
- If it was a channel meeting, check the SharePoint recycle bin for the channel site.
- Restore the file immediately if it is found.
- Recovery is time sensitive.
- Once recordings are purged from the recycle bin, they can’t be recovered.
- If the file is not in OneDrive or SharePoint recycle bin, there is no supported recovery path from Teams.
- Expired recordings are moved to the recycle bin where they were saved.
- If they are no longer there, they have been deleted from that location.
- For future recordings, review the expiration policy:
- By default, Teams meeting recordings and transcripts expire after 120 days in many business scenarios.
- Admins can manage this in Teams admin center under Meetings > Meeting policies > Recording & transcription.
