Microsoft cannot transfer a Minecraft purchase, Xbox gamertag, game progress, or account balance from the hacked personal Microsoft account to a new one; the supported route is to recover the original account.^1^
Recover the original account
- Secure the Windows 11 PC first
- Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Scan options.
- Select Full scan → Scan now.
- Complete this before changing the password, in case malware captured the original credentials.^2^
- Run Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper
- Open the Sign-in Helper: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2214157
- Enter the original email address or phone number.
- Follow the recovery option presented. The tool may provide self-help steps or an option to contact an agent.^2^
- If directed to the account recovery form, collect:
- Previous passwords.
- The original account address and a separate working contact email.
- Xbox gamertag.
- Hardware ID of an Xbox console used frequently, if applicable.
- Purchase dates, order or transaction IDs, and payment details.
- Exact Outlook/Hotmail email subject lines and contacts, if that mailbox was used.
Minecraft ownership and data are a separate issue
Creating a new Microsoft account—even with the same email address previously used—does not restore the old Minecraft purchase. The entitlement remains associated with the original account.^4^
If account recovery fails, contact Minecraft Support at https://aka.ms/Minecraft-Support/ and provide:
- Original Microsoft account address.
- New contact address.
- Minecraft username and Xbox gamertag.
- Purchase confirmation, order number, or transaction ID.
- Purchase date, amount, and payment method.
- A concise explanation that the original account was compromised.
Minecraft Support may review whether any alternative is available, but a transfer or replacement is not guaranteed. The documented Microsoft account limitation still prevents directly moving purchases, progress, or the gamertag between personal accounts.^1^
Do not post receipts, account addresses, transaction IDs, or payment information publicly in this Q&A thread; provide them only through the official recovery or support forms.
