Use Payment options → Investigate for each affected card, then ask Microsoft Billing Support to refund only the unmatched charge while leaving the visible Microsoft 365 Family subscription active.
1. Trace the charge that is missing from order history
Microsoft states that when two payments appear on statements but only one appears in order history, the other payment may belong to another Microsoft account, including a family member’s account.^1^
- Sign in to the Microsoft account containing the visible Microsoft 365 Family order.
- Open Payment & billing → Payment options.
- For the first affected card, select Investigate and follow the prompts.
- Repeat Investigate for the second card, if it is listed.
- Also check any other personal Microsoft accounts used by you or family members.
For the visible order, open Payment & billing → Order history, set the date range to include May 6, 2026, and open Order details. A posted order should show as Completed or Redeemed.^2^
Before contacting support, collect:
- Screenshots or statements showing both $129.99 posted charges
- Charge dates and the last four digits of each card
- The merchant descriptions exactly as shown
- Any transaction or reference numbers supplied by the card issuers
- The order details for the one visible transaction
Do not post the full order number, card number, or statements in this public forum.
2. Request a refund without cancelling the active subscription
Because only one transaction appears in order history, do not cancel that visible subscription merely to start the refund process. Cancellation could affect the subscription you want to retain, and refund eligibility through self-service cancellation is determined automatically.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
Instead:
- Open Contact Microsoft Support from the billing investigation page.
- Enter duplicate Microsoft 365 charge and select Get Help.
- Select Contact Support.
- Choose Microsoft 365 & Office → Billing/Subscriptions.
- Select chat or callback when offered.^4^
- Tell the agent:
Two separate credit cards were each charged $129.99 on May 6, 2026, for what appears to be one Microsoft 365 Family renewal. Only one payment appears in order history. Please trace the unmatched payment and refund only that charge, while keeping the currently visible Microsoft 365 Family subscription active.
Provide the card and bank transaction details privately to the support agent when requested.
Conditional cases
- If Investigate finds a second Microsoft subscription: Have Billing Support identify which subscription should remain active before cancelling anything.
- If either payment was processed by Apple App Store or Google Play: Request that payment’s refund directly from Apple or Google; Microsoft’s refund policy directs app-store purchases back to the applicable store.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
- If Microsoft cannot locate the unmatched transaction: Contact the card issuer for that charge. If the payment is unauthorized rather than merely duplicated, report the card as potentially compromised; disputing one payment alone does not prevent further unauthorized charges.^4^
