Can a Store app declare more than 500 file types?

Hi all,

I make (Link removed by Moderator), a reader that opens about 1,700 file formats. I'd like it to show up in "Open with" for as many of them as possible. It isn't trying to take over any defaults, just be one of the options.

When I uploaded the package, Partner Center rejected it: "declares support for 1566 file type extensions. Packages can't have more than 500." So for now I've cut it down to the 500 most common.

I couldn't find this limit documented anywhere (the manifest schema itself allows 1,000 per list), so a couple of questions:

  1. Is there any way to get the limit raised?
  2. If not, is there an approved way for an app to add more "Open with" types after install, if the user opts in?

Partner Center support said it isn't their area. Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks!
