Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
There is no supported self-service method to restore chats that are absent from both Copilot chat history and the Microsoft privacy export.
Based on the documented guidance for the updated Copilot app, the supported checks are:
- Confirm the correct account is in use.
- Make sure the same personal Microsoft account, Google sign-in, or Apple sign-in used previously is selected.
- Personal accounts and work or school accounts are separate, so verify the account switcher shows the expected account.
- Check whether the content is still moving.
- In the updated Copilot app, chats and content can take time to move.
- If the app shows an in-app link to older chats, use that link.
- If chats show as “coming soon,” Copilot can still be used while chats and content continue moving.
- Restart and recheck.
- Close and reopen the app, or refresh the web page.
- If different devices show different chats, allow more time for sync and data movement to complete.
- Check for retired or renamed features.
- Group Chat threads and content do not carry forward after August 18, 2026.
- Projects are now shown as Notebooks in the left navigation.
- If the issue continues, report it from the Copilot app.
- Select the ellipsis (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Send feedback.
- Select Report a problem.
- Include when the issue started, device and operating system details, and a screenshot.
The request to have an engineering administrator re-associate a back-end chat store is not a documented support path here. The supported escalation path in the available guidance is to submit Report a problem from the Copilot app with detailed diagnostics.
