Request for Guidance Regarding Microsoft 365 Subscription Refund

Hello, Microsoft Comunity.

I subscribed to the Microsoft 365 Premium free trial to help with my university assignments. However, I did not realize that the subscription would automatically renew into a paid plan, and I did not notice any reminder that the trial was about to end.

After discovering the charge at 10th October 2026, I immediately requested a refund through Google Play, but my request was denied. I also submitted an appeal and contacted Google Play Support for further assistance. I have since cancelled my subscription to prevent any future charges.

I understand that my purchase was made through Google Play and that refund decisions may need to be handled by them. However, I would appreciate any guidance you can provide regarding my situation and whether there are any further steps I can take.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

    Hi Alifya,

I understand how frustrating unexpected charges can be, especially when you are just trying to get your university assignments done.

Unfortunately, because you started your subscription through Google Play, the payment was processed and collected entirely by Google's billing system, not Microsoft's. When a purchase is made through a third-party storefront like Google Play or the Apple App Store, Microsoft has absolutely no access to the transaction details and physically cannot issue a refund. The refund decision rests 100% with Google and their specific billing policies.

You did the exact right thing by cancelling the subscription immediately to prevent any future charges. Submitting an appeal to Google Play Support was also the correct (and only) path to try and get your money back, even if they ultimately denied it. Microsoft Support cannot override a Google Play billing decision.

A tip for your university work: Since you mentioned needing Office apps for your university assignments, please check if your school provides Microsoft 365 Education. It is a completely free plan provided to students. You can search for "Microsoft 365 Education" on Google and enter your university email address on the official Microsoft page to see if you qualify. This way, you will not need to pay for a premium subscription once your current billing period ends.
