Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi Alifya,
I understand how frustrating unexpected charges can be, especially when you are just trying to get your university assignments done.
Unfortunately, because you started your subscription through Google Play, the payment was processed and collected entirely by Google's billing system, not Microsoft's. When a purchase is made through a third-party storefront like Google Play or the Apple App Store, Microsoft has absolutely no access to the transaction details and physically cannot issue a refund. The refund decision rests 100% with Google and their specific billing policies.
You did the exact right thing by cancelling the subscription immediately to prevent any future charges. Submitting an appeal to Google Play Support was also the correct (and only) path to try and get your money back, even if they ultimately denied it. Microsoft Support cannot override a Google Play billing decision.
A tip for your university work: Since you mentioned needing Office apps for your university assignments, please check if your school provides Microsoft 365 Education. It is a completely free plan provided to students. You can search for "Microsoft 365 Education" on Google and enter your university email address on the official Microsoft page to see if you qualify. This way, you will not need to pay for a premium subscription once your current billing period ends.
