Microsoft account says it doesn’t exist, but Microsoft Store is still signed in — Minecraft purchase and unexpected Java username change

Hi, I’m looking for help with a Microsoft account issue that I haven’t been able to resolve through the normal recovery tools.

I purchased Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC on October 15, 2025, and I still have the original Microsoft purchase confirmation.

Here’s what happened:

I originally used my Gmail address (Account A) for my Microsoft account and Minecraft purchase. At some point, I changed the primary alias to another Gmail address (Account B, which I use as <PII removed>). I have an official Microsoft security email confirming that I changed the primary alias from Account A to Account B.

I don’t remember whether I later removed Account A as an alias or only changed the primary alias.

Now, when I try to sign in to Microsoft online using either Gmail address, I receive the message that the Microsoft account doesn’t exist. Both Gmail inboxes still exist and work normally as Google accounts.

However, the Microsoft Store on my PC still displays Account A, which exactly matches the email address on my Minecraft purchase confirmation. I was previously able to play Minecraft Java using this account, but I was unexpectedly signed out and can no longer sign in.

I also noticed that my Minecraft Java username had suddenly changed to a random-looking name made up of letters and numbers. I did not intentionally change it. I don’t know whether this is related to the account issue.

I’ve tried Microsoft’s account recovery and sign-in tools, but neither email address is recognized. Minecraft Support sent me general troubleshooting instructions, but I cannot follow the steps that require me to sign in to the Microsoft account.

My questions

  1. If I changed my primary alias and possibly removed the original Gmail address, could that explain why neither address is recognized as a Microsoft account?
  2. Is it possible that the Microsoft account still exists but its sign-in aliases were removed or changed?
  3. How can I recover access to the account associated with my Minecraft purchase?
  4. Is there a way to investigate the unexpected Java username change and determine whether my profile was modified?

I have the Minecraft purchase confirmation and Microsoft’s security email confirming the primary-alias change. I can provide them privately to the appropriate support team if needed.

I’m not trying to create a new account or repurchase Minecraft. I want to recover access to the account and game I already purchased.

Thank you for any help.

    Hello ryo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

    Regarding your questions:

    1. That's not possible unless you remove both of them from the account as alias.
    2. Unfortunately, that is a possible theory. A lot of case like this involve a hacked account.
