Run the Windows 10 Bluetooth troubleshooter first, then use Device Manager to restore the adapter if Bluetooth remains absent.
1. Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
- Select Start → Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot.
- Under Find and fix other problems, select Bluetooth.
- Select Run the troubleshooter and apply any recommended repair.
- Restart the PC and check Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices. ^1^
2. Check whether Windows detects the Bluetooth adapter
- Right-click Start, then select Device Manager.
- Select View → Show hidden devices.
- Check these categories:
- Bluetooth
- Network adapters
- Other devices
Then use the matching branch:
- Bluetooth adapter is listed: Right-click it and select Update driver → Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Bluetooth adapter is hidden or grayed out: Right-click it, select Uninstall device, and restart the PC. Windows should redetect the hardware during startup. This is a commonly accepted resolution for the same Windows 10 missing-toggle symptom. ^2^
- No Bluetooth adapter appears anywhere: Install the Bluetooth driver supplied for the exact PC or motherboard model from its manufacturer’s support site. Windows’ automatic driver search may not provide the required manufacturer driver. ^1^
When uninstalling an adapter, avoid selecting Attempt to remove the driver for this device unless the manufacturer’s replacement driver has already been downloaded. If reinstalling is necessary, restart after uninstalling and then check whether the toggle has returned. ^3^
3. Install Windows updates
Go to Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates, install available updates, and restart. Some Bluetooth drivers are delivered through Windows Update.
Also press Windows+A and verify that Airplane mode is off. A missing Bluetooth control generally means Windows cannot currently detect or enable the Bluetooth hardware, rather than the toggle merely being hidden.
If the adapter remains completely absent after installing the correct manufacturer driver, check the manufacturer’s support information for a BIOS/UEFI update or hardware-specific recovery procedure. Persistent absence in Device Manager can require diagnosis by the PC manufacturer.
