    Hello,

Let's try to figure out what is stopping the activation. Since you just got the laptop, I need a bit more info to track down the exact issue.

First off, is your Windows itself fully activated?

Also, if you just open up a blank document in Word, click on File at the top left, and then go to Account, what exact error message or prompt are you seeing under the Product Information section?

Finally, have you logged into the Microsoft account website and checked the Services and subscriptions page to see if Office 2024 actually got attached to your account when you tried to claim it in the store earlier?

Let me know these details so we can figure out the right fix.

For a new laptop that includes Office 2024, this is usually an activation or account-linking issue, not a laptop defect.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check the Microsoft account used for activation
      • Open an Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account used during setup.
      • If that does not work, check whether the Office license is actually attached to that account by signing in to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      • If Office 2024 or a Microsoft 365 subscription is not listed there, that account is not linked to the license.
    2. If the laptop came with a product key or activation card, redeem it
    3. If Office was preinstalled on the laptop, start activation from an Office app
      • Open Word or another Office app.
      • If Microsoft detects the included license, signing in adds the product to the Microsoft account automatically.
      • A printed product key is usually not provided when the device uses a digital license.
    4. Check for conflicting older Office installs
      • In Windows, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Search for office.
      • If more than one Office version is installed, uninstall the version not being used.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Open an Office app and sign in again.
      • If activation still fails, run an Online Repair for the remaining Office installation.
    5. If Office shows as unlicensed, verify subscription status
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Go again to Services & subscriptions.
      • If the subscription is expired, renew it, then reopen Office.
    6. Run the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter
      • This is available for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 or later.
      • Run it on the same PC where Office is installed and follow the prompts.
    7. If Microsoft Store “Claim” did not add anything to the account
      • The key check is still whether the product appears in Services & subscriptions.
      • If it does not appear there, the claim did not complete successfully or the wrong account was used.

If the laptop included only a trial and not a full Office license, Office will continue to ask for activation or a Microsoft 365 purchase.
