    Dear Amanda McClelland,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble saving your PowerPoint presentation.

To better understand the issue, could you please let me know what exact error message you receive when trying to save the file? If possible, please take a screenshot of the error message and share it with me.

In the meantime, please try these troubleshooting steps below and check if it works:

    1.Save the file locally first.

    • In PowerPoint, select File > Save As.
    • Select This PC.
    • Select Browse, choose a simple local folder such as Documents, give the file a new name, and select Save.
    • If the file saves there, the issue is likely related to the original save location.

2.If saving to OneDrive was intended, save manually instead of relying on AutoSave.

    • Select File > Save As.
    • Select OneDrive.
    • Choose the folder and save the presentation.

3.If the presentation still will not save, create a new presentation and move the slides into it.

    • Open a new blank presentation.
    • Import or reuse the slides from the problem file.
    • Save the new file locally.
    • This helps if the original presentation is corrupted.

4.Make sure Office is updated: In PowerPoint, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

5.If the error mentions the file is in use or loaded by another user, test whether the Windows user profile is the cause.

    • Create a new Windows user account.
    • Sign in to that account and try saving a new PowerPoint presentation there.
    • If saving works in the new account, the problem is likely related to the original user profile.
    • For reference: Manage User Accounts in Windows

6.If saving to a cloud-synced or external location, try a standard local folder instead.

    • Save to Desktop or Documents first.
    • Then move the file afterward if needed.

I hope this helps. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Please feel free to reply below if you have any update or further concern.

I am looking forward to your response!

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Save the presentation with a new name and in a local folder.
      • In PowerPoint, go to File > Save As > Browse.
      • Save it to a simple local location such as Documents.
      • If the current file is older .ppt format, save it as PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx).
      • If the file contains macros, save it as .pptm.
    2. Close and reopen the newly saved file.
      • After converting from .ppt to .pptx or .pptm, close PowerPoint and reopen the converted file.
      • Verify the content and layout after conversion.
    3. If the file still will not save, create a new presentation and import the slides.
      • Create a blank presentation.
      • Use Home > New Slide > Reuse Slides to bring in slides from the problem file.
      • Save the new presentation locally.
      • This helps when the original file is corrupted.
    4. Update Office.
      • In PowerPoint, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    5. If the presentation contains an embedded Excel table and the device has Office 2010 with the SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot add-in, this specific save error can occur.
      • The documented workaround is to deactivate the PowerPivot add-in in Excel or use Office 2013 instead of Office 2010.
      • A fix was released in Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2012 SP1.

    Important:

    • Make a backup copy before converting or rebuilding the file.
    • After conversion, check for any content or layout changes.
