Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To change the primary email address on a personal Microsoft account, add the new address as an alias, then make it the primary alias.
- Go to Edit account info at https://account.live.com/names/manage and sign in.
- Select Add email.
- Add and verify the new email address.
- After it appears in the alias list, select Make primary next to that address.
- If needed, remove the old address after the new one is primary.
Important:
- Any alias enabled for sign-in can be used to sign in to Microsoft services.
- An email address already used as an alias on another Microsoft account can’t be added.
- Removing an alias with a Microsoft domain such as
@outlook.com,@hotmail.com, or@live.compermanently deletes that address and it can’t be reclaimed. - If the account is a work or school account, the organization manages the sign-in email address and changes must be made by the IT admin.
If the goal is specifically to change the email associated with a Microsoft 365 Developer Program membership, set the desired email as the primary email on the Microsoft account. That primary email becomes the one associated with the membership.
