Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Dear Mimi,
Normal website links are expected to open in your web browser, so that behavior would not indicate a problem. If the link is an email address but opens webmail instead of creating a message in classic Outlook, Windows may have the wrong application assigned to the MAILTO protocol. To check, hover your mouse over the link without clicking it. The address appears in a small pop-up. If it starts with mailto:, it's an email link, and you can set Outlook as the default:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps.
- Search for MAILTO, or select Choose defaults by link type and find MAILTO.
- Select the current app and change it to Outlook.
After that, email links should open a new message in classic Outlook.
If the link starts with https:// instead, it's a website link, so opening in your browser is the expected behavior. If that's not what you were expecting, please let me know what the link is meant to do, and I can look into it further.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
