    Hi @Richard Cannon ,

Close any other apps that might be using the camera. Then go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, check the recent activity, and make sure camera access is enabled for the app you’re using.

If the problem continues, open Device Manager, find your webcam under Cameras, and try updating its driver. Restart your laptop and test the Windows Camera app. If it works there, check the camera settings in the affected app

Let me know how it goes

Error 0xA00F4243 commonly indicates the camera is reserved by another app. For a plug-and-play webcam on Windows 11, use this troubleshooting path:

    1. Run the automated camera troubleshooter in the Get Help app. It can diagnose and fix many camera issues automatically.
    2. Check camera privacy settings:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      • Make sure Camera access and Let apps access your camera are On.
    3. Check whether Windows installed a problematic driver:
      • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras.
      • Right-click the webcam > Properties > Driver.
    4. Try updating the driver through Windows Update first. Driver issues are a common cause of camera detection and camera app errors.
    5. If updating does not help, switch to the generic Windows camera driver:
      • In Device Manager, right-click the camera > Properties > Driver > Update driver.
      • Select Browse my computer for drivers.
      • Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      • Select USB Video Device and complete the installation.
    6. If the webcam still does not work, unplug it and reconnect it, then test again in the Camera app.
    7. If the device appears with a driver problem in Device Manager, uninstalling and reinstalling the device driver can help. This is commonly used for camera driver issues.

If the webcam is built into a Surface device, an additional step is available:

    • In Device Manager, expand Cameras, open the camera device, go to Driver, and select Uninstall Device, then restart the Surface.
    • Warning: Do not do this on Surface Pro X. On that device, uninstalling drivers can require a full system reset to restore them.
