For a Microsoft Credit Note - I am unsure how Credit Note Number: E01010KFUU, Original Invoice Number: E01010D2OZ is being paid and I'd like to update the payment method.

Changing the stored payment method will not confirm or redirect this already-issued credit note; contact authenticated Microsoft Billing Support with the credit-note and original-invoice numbers, then update the payment method separately using the account-specific path below.

    Trace the existing credit note

The available documentation does not establish whether this specific credit note will be refunded, applied against the original invoice, or retained as an account credit. Only Billing Support can inspect that transaction.

For a personal Microsoft 365 account:

    1. Open Microsoft Support.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
    3. Select Microsoft 365 → Get Home Support.
    4. Enter trace an issued credit note.
    5. Select Contact Support, then choose chat or callback when offered.^1^
    6. Provide the credit-note number, original-invoice number, issue date, amount, and the last four digits of the original payment method.

For a Microsoft 365 business account:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Select Help & support in the lower-right corner.
    3. Enter Determine settlement method for an issued credit note.
    4. If the suggested results do not resolve it, select Contact Support, choose phone or email, and provide both document numbers.^2^

This requires an administrator. If all subscriptions were purchased through a Microsoft partner, contact that partner instead.

For privacy, do not post the complete credit-note or invoice numbers in a public forum again.

Change the payment method for future billing

Personal Microsoft 365 subscription bought directly from Microsoft

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions page.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 and select Manage.
    3. Select Change payment if available, and associate the desired payment method with the subscription.

If Manage or Change payment is missing, the subscription may be managed by Apple, Google, Amazon, or another retailer; payment changes must then be made through that provider.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Where can I manage my Microsoft 365 subscription? | Microsoft Support")

To update only the name, billing address, expiration date, or CVV on an existing personal-account card:

    1. Open Payment options.
    2. Select View or edit card.
    3. Update the details and select Save.^4^

Editing an existing card is different from assigning a different payment method to the subscription.

    Microsoft 365 business account

Payment methods are associated with subscriptions for MOSA billing accounts or with billing profiles for MCA accounts. Required permissions depend on the billing account type.

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, open:
      • Simplified view: Products → View payment methods
      • Dashboard view: Billing → Bills & payments → Payment methods
    2. Select the three-dot More actions menu beside the current method, then select Replace.
    3. Choose Use another payment method or Add a payment method.
    4. Review the affected subscriptions or billing profile, select Replace payment method, and close the wizard.^5^

Adding a payment method alone does not associate it with a subscription or billing profile. If Replace is unavailable, ask the tenant administrator for the applicable billing permissions.

Changing the payment method generally affects future billing; Billing Support must confirm whether this particular credit note can be redirected or how it will be applied.
