Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Try this in classic Outlook on Windows 11:
- Open Outlook.
- Select File > Add Account.
- Enter the email address, then continue the sign-in flow.
- If this is an additional account, repeat the same steps from File > Add Account.
If automatic setup keeps failing:
- In classic Outlook, go to File > Add Account.
- Enter the email address.
- Select Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually.
- Choose POP or IMAP.
Important:
- Manual setup in classic Outlook is not available for Microsoft 365 or Exchange accounts unless POP or IMAP is enabled for that account.
- If the account is from Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud, two-factor authentication may require an app password instead of the normal password.
If the email being added is a Microsoft account sign-in alias rather than a separate mailbox, adding it to the Microsoft account does not create a separate Outlook mailbox. Adding an alias only adds another username for the same Microsoft account.
If the goal is to add another sign-in email to the Microsoft account itself:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account how you sign in page.
- Select Add email.
- Follow the prompts to add the new email address as an alias.
If the goal is to add a mail account in the Outlook mobile app instead, use:
- Tap the avatar in the top left.
- Tap the gear icon.
- Under Mail Accounts, tap Add Mail Account > Add Email Account.
