    Hello @Malcolm and Teresa Wheeler

Since this is a user-to-user community forum, as a moderator, I can provide general guidance and point you to the appropriate Microsoft resources. However, I do not have access to Microsoft's student verification system and cannot verify or approve your eligibility from the forum.

If you are a student and would like to get started with Microsoft 365, you can first check your eligibility for the Microsoft 365 Education A1 plan through the link below:

Get started with Microsoft 365 Education

After providing the required information, Microsoft will verify your eligibility as a student before providing access to the education offering. As part of the verification process, you could be required to use an account or email address provided by your school or educational institution to confirm that you are currently part of the institution.

Please note that the A1 plan does not include the full desktop Office applications. If you would like to use the desktop versions of applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Microsoft also offers eligible college and university students a 50% discount on Microsoft 365 Personal.

You can learn more about the student offer, review the eligibility requirements, and complete the sign-up process here:

Microsoft Student Discount on Office, Word | Microsoft 365

You can review the requirements and complete the sign-up process directly through the page above. I hope this information helps you choose the Microsoft 365 option that best suits your needs.

Sign in to the OU-provided Microsoft 365 account using either the personal email address registered with the OU or your OU Computer Username (OUCU)—you do not need to create a separate OU email address first.^1^

    Access and install Microsoft 365

    1. Open the Microsoft 365 Apps page.
    2. Select Sign in.
    3. Enter either:
      • the personal email address the OU uses to communicate with you, or
      • your OUCU, such as zx123456.
    4. Enter your OU password and complete the OU multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompt. The OU recommends registering more than one MFA verification method.^2^
    5. Select Install apps and then Microsoft 365 apps. Run the downloaded installer and follow its prompts.^3^

Your personal email is acting as an OU sign-in identifier for the OU-managed account. It is not the same as signing in with an unrelated personal Microsoft account. The OU account has the Microsoft 365 licence associated with it; Microsoft requires Office to be activated using the account connected to that licence.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Why do I need an account to sign in to Microsoft 365 or Office? | Microsoft Support")

    If Install apps is missing

    1. Open the Microsoft 365 Software page directly.
    2. Sign in with the same OU-associated credentials.
    3. If offered, choose the language and 32-bit or 64-bit version, then select Install.^3^
    4. If that page still has no installation option, contact OU student computing support. This normally requires the institution’s Microsoft 365 administrator to check whether a desktop-app licence has been assigned. You may still have access to browser-based applications.

The OU confirms that Microsoft 365 is available free to OU students through its online-study guidance.^5^
