I have come to a conclusion that the installed M.D.A. does not include the detections of computer viruses when entering infected genuine websites?,and only detects computer viruses, only after a downloaded program was opened up or unzipped/unpacked?.I only relied on my installed M.D.A. and the other free tools that has been included by Microsoft, as my only line of defense, and sadly it only has left me dissapointed by the end results. In my case only relying on the M.D.A.,has been quite normal to having to go ahead with a reset of Windows 11 as the last resort, after all other options had not improved.I expected the M.D.A. to have given back a much better end result than before 2026?,than continually giving back the results like so.Is there another free antivirus that you'd recommend i explore further on?..

Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows 11 is designed to do more than scan files only after they are opened. It includes real-time, behavior-based, and heuristic protection, and it uses cloud-delivered protection for near-instant detection and blocking of new and emerging threats. Windows 11 also includes Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, which helps protect against phishing sites, malware websites and applications, and potentially malicious downloads. Network protection can also help block access to phishing sites, malware, tech support scams, and malicious downloads.

If another antivirus product is installed and turned on in Windows 11, Microsoft Defender Antivirus turns off automatically. On Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices that are not onboarded to Defender for Endpoint Plan 2, Microsoft Defender Antivirus does not run in passive mode alongside a non-Microsoft antivirus product.

For a home Windows 11 device, the built-in protection stack is intended to be the primary free antivirus solution:

    1. Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
    2. Select Manage settings.
    3. Make sure Real-time protection is On.
    4. For optimal protection, turn on Cloud-delivered protection and Automatic sample submission.
    5. Keep Windows updated through Windows Update so security updates and antimalware updates install automatically.

    If unwanted software is suspected:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
    2. Sort by install date if needed.
    3. Uninstall recent apps that were not intentionally installed.
    4. Remove suspicious browser add-ons.

If malware caused irreversible changes, resetting the PC can be necessary. Before doing that, back up files and settings that need to be kept. Restore from backups created before the infection when possible, because backups stored on the PC during infection might also have been modified.

The context does not provide a recommendation for a different free antivirus product.
