Your conversation is likely still being migrated to the updated Copilot experience, so access it using the identical account and sign-in method you used on your phone, then allow the migration to synchronize before continuing that chat.

Microsoft says chats and content move automatically, but they can be temporarily unavailable or differ between devices while the updated app rolls out.^1^

    Recover the conversation

    1. Check the account shown in Copilot on both devices.
      • It must be the same personal Microsoft account.
      • If you originally used Google or Apple, choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple again. Typing the same email through another sign-in route might not open the same Copilot content.
      • Personal and work/school accounts remain separate.^2^
    2. Check the account in a private browser window.
      • Open an InPrivate or Incognito window.
      • Go to copilot.microsoft.com.
      • Sign in using the original account and sign-in method.
      • If you are redirected to the updated experience, that account has moved—or is still completing the move. If you remain on the former experience, try opening the conversation there.^1^
    3. Look for a migration message inside Copilot. If Copilot says chats are “coming soon” or provides a link to existing chats, use that link. It is specifically intended for accessing content while migration continues.
    4. Close and reopen Copilot on both devices, then check again later. Microsoft says migration time varies according to the amount and type of content being moved. Device histories can remain out of sync until that process finishes.^1^

Do not delete or reset the app yet. A reset is unlikely to repair content that is still moving on Microsoft’s side and could remove useful local state.

    Why Copilot appears to “forget”

If that conversation cannot load, Copilot cannot reliably use its messages as the active thread context. Mentioning something from it in another chat does not guarantee that the complete unavailable conversation will be retrieved. Starting a new chat may restore normal replies temporarily, but copy or summarize the essential details into it; the new chat is not a recovery of the failed thread.

If the original conversation opens anywhere—phone, browser, or Windows app—copy important material into a document immediately.

    If it remains unavailable

Report the affected conversation directly from Copilot:

    1. Select … in the upper-right corner.
    2. Select Send feedback.
    3. Select Report a problem.
    4. Include:
      • The exact message: “Unable to load the content”
      • When the failure began, including time zone
      • Windows version and whether mobile still opens the chat
      • Whether web and app produce the same result
      • The screenshot, after removing personal information

These details are the official escalation route for a migration or account-specific failure.^1^

If this was a Group Chat, there is an important exception: Group Chat threads and content were not carried forward after August 18, 2026. Ordinary eligible chats should migrate, but retired-feature content is handled differently.^2^
