    Hello,

This indeed is an issue with Office Apps on iPad/iPhone after the recent updates. I am seeing multiple users reporting the same behavior: Office App gets stuck while saving, changes may not be retained, and it can happen whether the file is stored locally or in OneDrive/other cloud storage.

I haven't found an official Microsoft acknowledgement or fix yet.

As a temporary workaround, if possible, try opening the file using the Office web version in Safari or Chrome. Other affected users have reported that the browser version is still able to save normally.

Please also make sure you use the in-app Help & Feedback feature to report this bug. Submitting feedback is important because it gives Microsoft’s product team direct evidence that an issue is affecting real users. Forum posts are useful for troubleshooting, but they do not always reach the engineers responsible for the product.

Feedback submitted through the app can include details such as the app version, device/OS information, diagnostics, and the specific feature involved. It also helps Microsoft see how many users are reporting the same problem. The more consistent reports they receive, the easier it is to identify a pattern, prioritize the issue, reproduce it internally, and eventually issue a fix.

So even if someone has already reported the same bug, it is still worth submitting feedback. Multiple reports help show that it is not an isolated case.

There is no information here about who is working the issue or whether Satya Nadella is aware of it.

For the iPad Excel save/freezing problem, the supported troubleshooting steps are:

    1. Sign out of Excel, force-close the app, reopen it, and sign back in.
    2. Create a new blank workbook, enter test data, and check whether Save and Exit works there. This helps determine whether the problem is with one workbook or with Excel on the iPad generally.
    3. If Excel freezes, temporarily turn off Wi-Fi or enable Airplane mode. In reported cases, this can make the app responsive again. Then reconnect and test saving.
    4. On the iPad, go to Settings > Excel > Reset, then select Reset Cloud Settings.
    5. Restart Excel.
    6. If the issue continues, uninstall and reinstall Excel. Before doing that, make sure files are synchronized to OneDrive or otherwise backed up, because reinstalling can risk loss of unsynced local data.
    7. Check available storage on the iPad at Settings > General > iPad Storage. Low storage can prevent saving or cause apps to become unresponsive.

Additional save-related causes documented for Excel include:

    • insufficient free disk space
    • antivirus software interrupting the save process
    • file sharing conflicts when multiple users save at the same time
    • missing read, write, modify, or delete permissions to the save location
    • saving to an external or network drive where the connection fails
    • file paths longer than 218 characters

If the workbook is stored on OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online, AutoSave can save changes to the cloud while working.
