Other Configuration Manager-related features and issues
Upgrade Configuration Manager current branch to version 2609; this release replaces the legacy CMG sizes with Dads v6 SKUs and automatically migrates existing CMG virtual machine scale-set deployments during the update.^1^
New CMG sizes
| CMG tier | Previous size | New size |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Standard_B2s |
Standard_D2ads_v6 |
| Medium | Standard_A2_v2 |
Standard_D4ads_v6 |
| Large | Standard_A4_v2 |
Standard_D8ads_v6 |
The new sizes provide more memory and processing capacity. Microsoft states that their pricing is generally close to the previous sizes, although actual pricing varies by Azure region.^1^
Upgrade and migrate
- Confirm the site runs Configuration Manager 2503 or later.
Version 2609 is available as an in-console update only for sites running version 2503 or later.^1^ - Confirm the top-level site has a service connection point.
It can operate in online or offline mode, but it is required to obtain update 2609.^2^ - In the Configuration Manager console, open Administration → Updates and Servicing.
- Review the documented pre-update checklist, run the prerequisite check, and install update 2609. After installation, complete the post-update checklist.^2^
- Upgrade the Configuration Manager console.
The updated console is required to display the new CMG VM sizes correctly.^1^ - Verify that each CMG shows its corresponding
D*ads_v6size after the update.
Because Configuration Manager performs the migration automatically during the 2609 update, do not manually resize the underlying VM scale set unless Microsoft Support directs you to do so.
The February 2027 pricing change is separate from retirement. Azure lists Av2/Amv2 as announced for retirement on November 15, 2028; capacity restrictions can affect older series before retirement.^3^
