Azure for Students: Academic Verification Successful but Not Eligible is showing

Hello Microsoft Support,

I am a university student in Pakistan. I successfully completed academic verification using my university email address.

However, when I try to sign up for Azure for Students, I receive the error message: "You are not eligible for this subscription."

I have never had an Azure subscription before. In the Azure Portal, the Subscriptions page shows 0 subscriptions, and I have only one directory named Default Directory.

Could you please help me understand why I am not eligible and how I can resolve this issue?

Thank you.

Request an Azure for Education eligibility review, because academic verification alone does not activate the offer and the remaining account or redemption checks cannot be reviewed or changed in the Azure portal.

    Request the account review

    1. Create an Azure support request using Microsoft’s support-request route ^1^.
    2. Select the closest available category to:
      • Subscription management
      • Azure for Students
      • Sign-up or eligibility
    3. Include:
      • The exact error: “You are not eligible for this subscription.”
      • Confirmation that academic verification succeeded using your university account.
      • Confirmation that the portal displays 0 subscriptions and only Default Directory.
      • Your university’s name and country/region.
      • A screenshot of the error and any session/correlation ID shown on the failure page.
    4. Ask Support specifically to:
      • Perform a manual Azure for Students eligibility review.
      • Check whether a previous Azure for Students eligibility or redemption record is associated with another Microsoft identity.
      • Verify that the institutional email and Microsoft identity used during verification are being matched correctly.

This is the resolution provided for a closely matching case involving successful institutional sign-in, no visible subscriptions, and the same eligibility message. Such backend eligibility records cannot be reviewed through the portal or Microsoft Q&A ^2^.

    What successful academic verification means

Academic verification confirms your student affiliation, but the offer still applies additional eligibility requirements. Azure for Students requires that you:

    • Are at least 18 years old.
    • Attend an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year institution as a full-time student.
    • Verify through your institution’s email address.
    • Have no other Azure for Students subscription, because the offer is limited to one per eligible customer ^3^.

Therefore, seeing 0 subscriptions does not by itself prove that no previous eligibility or redemption record exists under another Microsoft identity.

Conditional checks while Support reviews the account

    • Institution status: Ask your university IT or Microsoft 365 administrator whether other students using the same institutional domain can currently activate Azure for Students. If they cannot, ask the administrator to open a Microsoft support ticket concerning the institution’s academic tenant registration ^4^.
    • Azure profile: If Support identifies a general Azure sign-up validation problem rather than a student-offer record, check that your account’s country/region, contact email, address, and telephone number are accurate. Microsoft lists incorrect profile information or another Microsoft account using the same details among causes of the general “not eligible” sign-up message ^5^.
    • Alternative offer: If the full Azure for Students offer is not approved, check whether Azure for Students Starter is available. It is a separate no-cost offer for verified students, with a limited set of services and no credit card requirement ^6^.

Do not post your university email address, session ID, or other account identifiers publicly; provide them only within the private support request.

    Dear @Eman Tanveer,

First of all, I want to clear something up: this is a forum where people help each other out. Nobody here has the tools or the authority to help you with account or billing issues. But I can give you some instructions on how to sort this out.

The most likely cause is that your institution's email domain (knou.ac.kr) is not currently recognized by the Azure for Students academic verification system. What is happening is that the Azure verification engine validates student eligibility against a list of approved academic domains, and your domain may not yet be registered or recognized in that database.

The eligibility criteria for the Azure for Students offer are as follows:

    1. You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited institution.
    2. You must be at least 18 years old or have reached the age of majority in your country of residence, whichever is later.
    3. You must have a valid school email address that ends with .edu or .ac.
    4. You must have a Microsoft account that is associated with your school email address.
    5. You must not have an existing Azure free account or a paid Azure subscription.

I would recommend reaching out to your school’s IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator. They can help verify whether your institution is properly enrolled and recognized within the Azure for Students program.

If everything is proceeding normally, then this issue may require further review by the Azure for Education Support team, particularly if the academic verification process is unable to validate your student status or recognize your institution. You may need to provide:

    • Your academic email address
    • Institution name
    • Country
    • Screenshot of the error message
    • Proof of current enrollment if requested

    For additional information, please review:

In some cases, the academic domain may need to be reviewed and added to the verification system before students can successfully redeem the Azure for Students offer.

    I hope this information helps.

If my answer helped you resolve your issue, please consider clicking it yes. This helps others in the community find solutions more easily.
