Everytime i try to change the password on my outlook account it tells me "There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later." ive tried a lot of fixes such as using different web browsers, using recommended techniques and nothing seems to work

    Hello,

If you have been experiencing this same problem for more than a week, it usually indicates that your account might be blocked.

So, wait for 24 hours first, and make sure you aren't signing in with your account during this period.

After 24 hours have passed, you can try connecting your device to another Wi-Fi network and then reset your password through this link: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

If you are still having the same problem, it is recommended to submit the Account Recovery form here:

    https://account.live.com/acsr

Remember to use a familiar device from which you've frequently accessed your Microsoft account, as well as a familiar location. Microsoft will review your responses and respond within 24 hours. If you are verified, instructions on how to log back into your account will be sent to you. That is, you will receive a password reset email at your alternate address. You can use that link to reset your password successfully.

Let me know if you still need more help.

Since the normal password-change page repeatedly fails, use Microsoft’s password-reset flow instead of retrying browsers or the same change-password operation.^1^

    Reset through account recovery

    1. Open Microsoft’s Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password page.
    2. Select Reset password, enter your Outlook.com address, and select Next.
    3. Choose a registered recovery email address or phone number.
    4. Re-enter the requested portion of that address or phone number, then select Get code.
    5. Enter the verification code, select Next, and create the new password.^2^

This is a separate recovery route from Security → Change password, so it is the appropriate next attempt after the standard change operation fails.

If verification or reset still fails

Run Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper. Enter the affected Outlook.com address or mobile number; it checks for account-specific problems and directs you to the applicable recovery action.^3^

If you have two-step verification enabled:

    • Choose another verification method already registered to the account, if available.
    • If no listed email address or phone number is accessible—or you do not recognize the options—use the Sign-in Helper links offered during recovery rather than repeatedly requesting codes.^2^

    Escalate if both routes fail

From the password-change support page, select Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, choose Get Help, and then select Contact Support if offered.^1^

    Include:

    • The exact error message.
    • Whether it appears before or after identity verification.
    • Which recovery method fails—email, phone, or both.
    • Approximately when the problem began.

Support can investigate the account flow, but Microsoft states that support agents cannot directly change account details or send password-reset links.
